Software unlock for iPhone 3.0 OS now available

The 'Dev-Team', the world's premiere iPhone software hacking team, has done it again, releasing hacks that enable all 1st-generation (original) and 2nd-generation (3G) iPhone users to use the amazing new 3.0 software with any mobile carrier (including those in Brunei).

The iPhone 3.0 OS was officially released by Apple last Wednesday, adding long-awaited functions such as cut, copy & paste, landscape keyboard typing, MMS, Spotlight search, Internet tethering and more, but the millions who've been using un-sanctioned Apple mobile carriers have not been able to use the software.

Apple's iPhone line is available in many countries all over the world, but subscribers are usually restricted to only using SIM cards from the mobile carrier they bought their phones from. This has therefore resulted in the underground development of software hacks which successfully enable the phones to be used using any mobile carrier.

The Dev-Team has finally announced Ultrasn0w, a full unlock for all iPhones, excluding the newly released iPhone 3GS.

If you're technically inclined, unlocking your iPhone with Ultrasn0w seems to be quite straightforward:

1. Ensure you have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0
2. Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (this will also install Cydia/Icy)
3. Run Cydia or Icy
4. Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia or Icy. That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.
5. Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in cydia or icy and install ultrasn0w
6. Reboot your iPhone 3G
7. Enjoy

If you're not technically inclined, then we suggest you contact your phone dealer and ask them to do it for you.

If you're brave enough to do it yourself.. visit the Dev-Team blog (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/) for instructions.

If you're not 'tech-savvy' enough, contact the place where you bought your iPhone to do it for you. They might however charge you for the service.
